Hoppy Easter!

I hope everyone had a wonderful easter!  today was an epic day at the Hippo parents house!  All three kids were together!

We had Mr and Mrs Hippo, Brohamm 1 and  brohamm 2 and his family.  Dinner was chaotic but great!  Everyone tries to talk over each other, the kids are running around, and poor Lily is terrified.  It is so funny how she cowers around kids.  Little scardy cat:)

Oh, and i forgot to mention I am shipping out 14 packages tomorrow.  Whew.

Enjoy your Monday!

Happy Masters Sunday!

Hope everyone had a wonderful had a wonderful Masters Sunday@  I was joking with Mr. Hippo that it seems like every Masters Sunday is more beautiful than the next, like it is designed on purpose, lol.  I wonder what the stats are on how many good vs. bad weather days there are...

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Super Weekend

Mr. Hippo and I had a fun weekend.  We started off Saturday going to the Atlanta Car Show.  We had so much fun!  Mr. Hippo got to pretend he was driving all the cool cars. (Like the Shelby GT 500 Mustang)

After the car show we went out to watch the Florida game (Go gators!) and met some friends.

After that I started sewing!  which I continued to do through today!  Think I've been busy?

#TBT

Today's Throwback Thursday is an oldie but goodie!

This is one of my favorite pictures. Having 2 older brothers, I was constantly terrorized.  Kev and Steven wrapped me in BLUE Charmin toilet paper.  Who remembers that?  What wold everyone say today if we all used Blue toilet paper??

Anyways, my bros dressed me up like a Mummy and as you can see, I was terrifying.

Hope you all have a wonderful thursday!

Baby its cold outside

this cold weather has to stop!  today Mr Hippo had day 2 of his beer sampling.  its a sweet gig, he gets $50 per day and I get $20 for driving him.  He spends 39 minutes sampling gross beer:)

So we have finally caught up on laundry, dishes, and most importantly, Chicken!  We only buy chicken when it is on sale and we got it for $1.99.  Mr. Hippo has a process for wrapping the chicken.  Each pice gets washed, wrapped in saran warp, and wrapped in tin foil.  Then it is put (in order) in in the freezer.  when we are going to eat chicken, we thaw it out the night befor.  it is truly a genius process.  i think we shoulc patten it.  Maybe call it the manual chicken sorter freezing food storage application, or "ba-gaaaaaaaawk".  (chicken noise)

back to the grind again.  3 more orders tonight!  dont forget, check out my new items at www.thepreppyhippo.com

Happy Monday!

this is my first week with nothing planned for the weekend! No games, events, NOTHING work related wooo-hoo.  I think the last time I had nothing planned for work for an entire weekend was my wedding back in October!
best day ever!

Event though this weekend wont be as epic, it will still be nice to sleep in and lounge around, although I will probably be embroidering!.

Speaking of, check out some of my new products:

Hope everyone has a Terrific Tuesday!

Wacky Wednesday

Hi everyone! Happy Wednesday!  Not too exciting today, unless you count the 3 hour nap I got this afternoon:)  Lily and I took a long dog nap.

So many of you have been wondering whats the deal with Hippos?

It all started Mr. Hippo went to work one day wearing a kahki shirt and kahki pants.  He was picked on and his coworkers started saying he worked for the DNR (department of natural resources).  He is our little park ranger!  In one of his dnr dress days, the guys at work mentioned a job site story and the perosn in the story said they were "going to swim in your river like a hippo".  I know really silly... but since then we have joked about hippos and it grew (especially since Mr. Hippo wears his DNR outfit to work still).
I even gave Mr. Hippo cuff-links shaped like hippos for the wedding:)

Anyway, that is the backstory. Something silly that continues to be a running joke.  And since I love Ralph Lauren and anything nautical, preppy just fit!

Hope you all have a wonderful Thursday!

m baaaaack

Well hippos, my silly season is over!  That wonderful time of year when we have basketball (men's and women's), softball, baseball and tennis.  We have had no less that 5 events a weekend.  this was supposed to be my first weekend off, but it looks like softball will be here due to bad weather in Syracuse.  shocking I know.

Speaking of Syracuse, how many of you have ever been there?  I was born there and moved when I was 8.  We went back on and off, so I don't have as good memories as my brothers.  But, I will tell you this, it was always overcast and cold.  IT always felt like rain or snow was on the way.

But I do have these vague memories of our above ground pool, and it being warm.  There was this thing in the sky called sunshine...clearly I was hallucinating, since we know Syracuse is dull and dreary.

Funny story to leave you with regarding the pool:
picture me being 5 or 6 and full of sugar and vinegar.  I had this grand idea to make water balloons in the pool.  So, I took the airless balloon and tried to skim it over the water to fill it up.  Me being my undiagnosed ADHD self, quickly forgot about them.  Since I am such a water baby, I would swim around better than nemo, only I kept my mouth open a lot and swallowed the chlorinated water.

Low and behold I I swallowed some water with a a balloon in it!  I think I scared my mom to death.  She called someone (not sure if it was a "doctor"), and they told mom to have me pass the balloon.  So mom grabbed the only thing handy, Oreo cookies.  To this day, I am not sure how many I ate, but boy or boy, the balloon came out!  At least it was a tasty way to go!

I am not sure if this was the start of a life long love of oreos, or if I was born with that desire to lick all of the frosting out and return the "cookie" part to the container.  It was however, the start of never trying to make water balloons in a pool again.

ta-ta for now Hippos.  Go enjoy your oreos.

Love,
Mrs. Hippo

Happy 5th month anniversary!

Mr. Hippo and I celebrated with Laundry, dishes and watching DVR!  Whoo hoo! Does anyone else feel like they are boring?

Typical night, we each have our seats (I have a lazyboy he has a loveseat) and we watch tv here, eat dinner here (the table has become sewing central) and hangout.  I ask Mr. hippo all the time if he thinks we are an old married couple.  He responds with nah, this is what normal life is. I guess I thought we would be eating on our fine china every night wearing diamonds and tiaras:)
Our Fine china and Crystal...still with the price tags:)

what is your normal night like?

Toodles for now,

Project bag complete

My first large bag order came in this week.  I got the bags in today and worked away to finish them!  We only had to pause for a trip to walmart for thread and once for a broken needle.

(For those of you wondering the score is now needles 3, mrs. hippo 1)

Here is the middle of the project:
This is once I got the right shade of pink!  Canvas bags were a pain in the booty because of how thick they are.   I am so clumsy it is funny watching me try and work with these tiny, delicate threads.

Drumroll please, the finished product:
 Ready to be shipped off!

What a night...but now I have three big sales under my belt!  (That's one for each damn needle)

Happy Tuesday!

Today was a normal day for me, wake up, snooze as late as I can, throw some dry sampoo on the hair, and make it to work for my 8:30 meeting.

Oh, an get stopped waiting for a school bus, a trash truck and a cop checkin on a crash on the interstate.  Needless to say I barely made it in.  I think my middle name could be murphy, as in murphy's law.  rain on the day of a big tennis match

murphys law states Anything that can go wrong — will go wrong. I use this every day with my job, since I have to plan on everything going to pot.

what are your murphy's aw incidents?  mine always seem to be involving traffic.

Wacky Wednesday!

Its time for wacky Wednesday!  contact me and you will receive 50% off of any one item!

In other news.  Today is Lily's 5th birthday.  I never had a dog growing up, so this has been quite an experience!

We have had so much fun.  When I first got her I was determined to crate train.  You see I did all of my reading about what to do with puppies.  That didnt even last one night.  those whines and cries made it impossible to leave her in the crate.  From that moment on, her spot has always been on the right side of the foot of the bed.
She looks so cute and innocent, but let me tell you she is a kisser!  She wants to be included and wants all of the attention.  Why not, she is adorable.

Happy 5th Birthday Lily!

Super Sunday (on Tuesday)

HAPPY Tuesday Everyone!  At least I think its Tuesday.

Super Sunday is bleated this week.  My shout out for Super Sunday for this week is none other than my first nephew Matthew.

Its hard to believe this little guy is going to be 9 this year.   Matthew is the sweetest little boy.  He is constantly worried about everyone else, making sure they are ok.  Recently he was worried because Grammie didnt call to say she was home right on time.  When she did call, Matthew said she should have been home 30 minutes earlier!

Matthew's teachers adore him.  He told his speech teacher that God loves her.  We are all so lucky to have this great little guy in our family. It's been sop much fun to watch him grow up.  I can't wait to see what the future holds for him!

more to come hippos,

busy little bee

Hello Hippos!  Ive been so busy at work, but I havent forgotten about you.  Today we have a multitude of sports (well really all weekend) which begs me to answer the question, What do yuo consider a busy weekend and how do you schedule everything?

I have become dependant on my outlook calendar.  Mr. Hippo uses Google calendar and swears by it.  Up until this past year I still had a planner.

But what I find funny is that I still print out schedules and post them right next to my desk at eyesight.  I guess some habits are hard to die:)

Here's to modern technology:)

Hope you all have a wonderful Saturday!

Super Sunday vol. 1

today is the first ever Super Sunday!  Every Sunday we will take a moment out of our  day to honor someone Super, a super action or a super thing!

Today we are going to highlight Mr. Hippo.  We got engaged one year ago today.  He is so thoughtful and I am so lucky to have met him.  Mr. Hippo works very hard at his job, but still takes the time out to come visit me at all of my work events.  Friday he came to women's basketball and brought me chocolates for valentine's day.  Saturday he came to softball and brought me girl scout cookies and today he came to baseball and brought himself!  What more could a girl ask for?

We are sitting here right now, he on his loveseat and me on my lazy boy, both on our computers working and we look like an old married couple.  I hope we are like this for the next 30 years.

Three cheers to Mr Hippo and his thoughtfulness for being so super.

Stay tuned to see who/what is honored next Sunday!

XOXO
Mrs. Hippo.

Honeysuckle, the Pantone color of the year 2012
I just love this color.  It was the inspiration for my wedding last year.

So today caps off a full "day off", which we scheduled 3 home SB games.  Oh what fun.  Truley I love what I do, but there has to be a way to involve more people in working, especially when there are 3 games.  Oh well, 7:40 BP tomorrow AM!!!

Mr. Hippo has been a trouper, coming to games each day this weekend.  Lets see if the trend continues tomorrow;)

Im off to bed, stick around to see whats in store for Super Sunday!

Happy Valentine's Day

this is by far my most favorite holiday of all time!  Everything is pink, red and white!!  I love the cliched roses, chocolate, everything!

So we had baseball and wbb tonight.  This was a makeup wbb game and was also our pink game.  Which leads me to point out that there are a billion and one variations of pink now adays.  Out team wore light pink, the visitors wore hot pink and everyone else wore every shade in between.  I myself was in a coral pink jacket.

So what is your favorite shade of pink?
Light pink
Hot pink
salmon
coral

I will tell you my favorite tomorrow!

Trapped day 2

Hi there hippos!we are trapped here in snopocolypse 2.0.  its been such a differnt storm now one trapped in their car for house, not one walking 6 miles in the snow, etc.  mr. hippo and i have been working all day.

i think i have a new book title: how not to embroider: a collection of tips of what not to do.  it not that bad.  my mom and mr. hippo keep telling me how wonderful all of my products are, but arent they supposed to?  i have learned a lot in my 4 days as a seamstress.  i have only broken one needle and ruined one towel.  all in all that sounds like a solid effort.

i will keep you posted of my progress.  in the mean time, check out my store for new items~

ok corral

another day in the ok corral...

so in grad school i had to read a book called "death by meetings".  it basically surmized that we meet just to meet and don't get any productivity.  i swear, i have to get to work before the wprkday to get any good work done!  the problem with that is that the minions have caught on so now we have a company of more people getting to work before work, thus we are all working 60 hours!

rain is a ciming this weekend.  WIsh us luck with our first softball tourney.

Exciting news is coming tomorrow!  i have expanded my crafting!

ta ta for now hippos,

jeopardy and other monday night routines

Mr. Hippo and I are sitting here, he in his loveseat and I am in my lazyboy.  only 3.5 months in and we have settled into married life.  our nights include seinfeld, himym, bbt and of course jeopardy.  We both like to think we are smart and well educated but man some of those questions make us feel like we are failing kindergarden!

Speaking of, I have a batch of new students I have hired and MAN they are so smart.  How do these kids know what they want to do with their lives already?  I swear I dont even know what I want to do yet:)   Once girl is studying IE and knows she wants to be a consultant for the big 4, tax firms that is in atlanta.  she wants to be a consultant for them and travel and work for them for 2 years then get another job.  Yikes!  She is only 19.  Whats funny is they all think what I do is so cool and neat, if only they knew.

well see what tomorrow brings hippos.  more adventures to come from my people.

Happy Superbowl Sunday!

The gang is all hear to watch the superbowl!  Mr. Hippo's dad is here to make us dinner and celebrate the game!  Speaking of the superbowl, let me share my best memory ever.

2007 in Gainesville Florida.  I had just graduated form Florida the year before and was living in Orlando.  I went back to a friends house to watch the game.  There were all kinds of snacks and goodies.  They game was ok, I honestly dont even remember who played.  So halftime rolled around and instead of watching the entertainment, the host put on a DVD.  Not just any DVD.

The greatest DVD of all time.

It was "Journey's Greatest Hits-Live"

It was without a doubt the best halftime entetainment.  IT is funny the things you remember, like I dont remember who was there or the game, but I will never forget that halftime!

Don't stop believin' hippos,

The dirty side of snow

i love how everyone wants it to snow because it is so pretty...three days after it is so gross.
cars look like they havent been washed in decades.
gray slush is everywhere.
gravel and salt remains on the roads and sidewalks.
yucko-the dirty side of snow.

that would be a good book title, yea? there ive coined it.  the dirty side of snow.  lol.  thankfully i moved from syracuse when i was 8, so i didnt grow up with it.  what else could we add to this book?  corrupt shovel dealers? fake ice melt?  i bet there are lots of corruption, let me do my research.

mr hippo and i are enjoying the weekend off.  this is the last weekend i dont have work until april, so we are going to enjoy it!

more to come hippos.

Snowpocolypse Day 2

Yesterday Mr. Hippo and I ditched are cars and walked home.  It is a funny story, let me paint the picture for you.

Work closed at 1:30pm, and I chose to leave and start my journey to the great northland. Oh by the way, I was out of gas.  It took me 45 minutes to make it to the closest gas station and BAZINGA, they were out of gas.  I made it to one on Peachtree during hour 2.  I made it to 400 North and managed to average 7 mile-per-hour.  Mr. Hippo and I were talking throughout this.

He had to drop a co-worker off at Marta and was stuck on the East side of 400, less than 2 miles from home.  Let's just say I made it to the exit where he was in 45 minutes and he hadn't moved:)

I exited away from my house to simply park the car and walk home.  Low and behold, I see Mr. Hippo walking up the hill like a wondering nomad!  I picked him up and we parked the car, loaded up and walked home.

So right after this picture we were walking in the powder up on the terrain and BAM my right foot falls into a black hole of death.  I fell in to my knee and plunged forward.  I am fine, of course, but laughing hysterically.  I tend to be clumsy so this wasn't unusual.  Whats really funny is that 2 seconds later Phil hits a different hole and is in to his hip.  He looked legless for a brief moment.  The rest of the walk on that side was a trecherous climb down the hill trying to avoid the landmines and holes.

We made it home (we live right at the bottom of the hill) and bunkered in for the night.  Thankfully we have power, heat, gas cable and internet, the necessities of life:)

More to come hippos,
XOXO
