Well hippos, my silly season is over! That wonderful time of year when we have basketball (men's and women's), softball, baseball and tennis. We have had no less that 5 events a weekend. this was supposed to be my first weekend off, but it looks like softball will be here due to bad weather in Syracuse. shocking I know.
Speaking of Syracuse, how many of you have ever been there? I was born there and moved when I was 8. We went back on and off, so I don't have as good memories as my brothers. But, I will tell you this, it was always overcast and cold. IT always felt like rain or snow was on the way.
But I do have these vague memories of our above ground pool, and it being warm. There was this thing in the sky called sunshine...clearly I was hallucinating, since we know Syracuse is dull and dreary.
Funny story to leave you with regarding the pool:
picture me being 5 or 6 and full of sugar and vinegar. I had this grand idea to make water balloons in the pool. So, I took the airless balloon and tried to skim it over the water to fill it up. Me being my undiagnosed ADHD self, quickly forgot about them. Since I am such a water baby, I would swim around better than nemo, only I kept my mouth open a lot and swallowed the chlorinated water.
Low and behold I I swallowed some water with a a balloon in it! I think I scared my mom to death. She called someone (not sure if it was a "doctor"), and they told mom to have me pass the balloon. So mom grabbed the only thing handy, Oreo cookies. To this day, I am not sure how many I ate, but boy or boy, the balloon came out! At least it was a tasty way to go!
I am not sure if this was the start of a life long love of oreos, or if I was born with that desire to lick all of the frosting out and return the "cookie" part to the container. It was however, the start of never trying to make water balloons in a pool again.
ta-ta for now Hippos. Go enjoy your oreos.
Love,
Mrs. Hippo
